Now this is cool! There's a place on the web called Scenic Furniture that has some very nice rustic furniture. When I browsed their inventory, I took particular interest in their home office section. They had a really neat, rounded desk table that I loved. It was curved a bit, making it different and unique.
Then I focused on a two-drawer filing cabinet. I have this old dingy thing in my house for important files, but how nice it would be to have something that looked as good as the cabinet they have for sale. Made of Northern White Cedar logs, it's perfect for the indoors and is made to last. It's hand crafted, too.

I've been watching the news and seeing all the devastation in Southern California. Man, that's frightening. All those homes being lost and being having to flee for safety. It's growing, too. The pictures have been incredible, showing the blaze. Some of our news reporters covering it had to flee even in the middle of a report because the wind had changed the direction of the fire last night. Too close!
I watched Michael Shanks' movie, Living Out Loud, again tonight. He really did a great job in it. It was different to see him as a husband and father. Of course, this was a Hallmark movie which meant that they glossed over so much of the 'meat' of the story. I wanted to see the things we didn't see and wanted more depth to the transitions that were made in the character. Sadly, a two-hour movie is only 90-minutes and with five people to focus on, they can only do so much. Still, a very nice movie. I wish I could have taped it, but taping doesn't work for me anymore. Pooh! I'm hoping Hallmark shows it a lot, assuming I'm still able to get the Hallmark Channel in the foreseeable future.
The dogs are such a hoot. They've been bone-deprived for a while now, and when I saw these decent size ones on sale this week, I just felt like I had to get them each one. When I got home, though, I decided to just open one and put it on the floor and let them decide who got it first. You see, when I give them each big bones like this, they just never both eat them. One of them will start chewing on theirs, and the other one ends up watching or sitting by me. They seem to have fun doing that. The second bone gets ignored for the most part until the first one is gone.
And, since I can't stand to decide who should get the bone first, by just putting it on the floor and then letting them in the house, they decide the issue, and that's what they did. They had me in stitches. They took turns with all day long. They seem to have a code or something. It's just adorable to watch.
Sci Fi's been showing the first season Stargate SG-1's lately, and that's been fun to watch, even if they are chopped up. I'm so sick and tired of those crappy last couple of seasons that this feels refreshing to see the old shows again. I keep hearing that the new SG-1 movie will be more like the days of old and that Richard Dean Anderson definitely is the center of the attraction. I'm so hopeful of some good Jack and Daniel moments.
I'm also hoping for a good Jack and Daniel cameo together in the premier of Stargate Universe, a show I don't plan on watching except for the premier because Rick and Michael are both in it. It's probably going to be just like the Stargate Atlantis pilot where they are just in a few minutes towards the beginning, ie, the big send off. As long as it's Jack and Daniel, together, I'll be happy.
I read today that the dingbat responsible for the Air Force One fly-over the Statue of Liberty resigned. Maybe he's a scapegoat, and maybe not, but that was just the most ridiculous thing I've seen in a long time, so someone had to go. He admits to not reading emails and such. Time for a new job.
Did y'all get the Oprah Kentucky Fried Chicken coupon for the grilled chicken? Now talk about Oprah's popularity, this thing almost caused a riot. On the second day of the offer, my KFC was taking names and addresses and telling everyone they would be sending out coupons in the near future that would include a beverage, so that's even a better deal. The grilled chicken is good, by the way. I took advantage of getting the free piece on April 27 and thought it was very tasty.

Saturday night is the Southern 500, and I'm hoping Jeff Gordon can get another win there, or at least have a top 5. He's starting in the front row and has a good history there, so I'm thinking positively. Jeff's still having a lot of back problems, though, and that's kind of scary. I guess they've pinpointed the problem finally, but he hasn't told the world what it is as yet. I'm thinking those two big crashes he's had in the last three years may have taken a toll, not to mention lifting his little girl all the time. I just hope that whatever it is, they can take care of it. I'd hate to see his career end early.
As for the fan fic, those two stories are still there. I've had so many ideas pop into my fron lately, too, but I just have to spend the majority of my time earning money. I hate it; I really do, but I have to stay focused. I'm just down to scratching through the days. Soon, I hope!

The other day I mentioned a chat group I had found that might interest folks and today I've found another one. What appeals to me about this one is that it's one where Christians from around the world can come together and visit online in a safe environment. The site offers free christian chat for anyone who is interested.

Chat rooms can be a great place to get to know new people online and make friends. They're a place you can go to for fun and just to share whatever is on your mind. Folks have to be careful these days, of course, but chat rooms can be a place full of positive experiences. You never know what you might learn or who you might meet there.
One of these days, I dream about remodeling my kitchen. It's very old and yucky. It's a place I don't even want to go. It needs a lot of work. One of the worst spots is the sink. I can't stand it. With my dream in mind, I checked out some options. After all, it's fun to shop from your computer. One of the things I found were some stainless steel sinks that intrigued me. I don't have stainless steel anything right now, but everything today seems to have that sleek, shiny feel to it.
I looked around that site, called Sinks USA, to see what they had to offer. I actually got some ideas about what I might want for my kitchen if I ever get to re-do it. They had a lot of double sink options, with either equal compartments or a combination that included a bigger sink with a smaller one, either on the right or left side. It just had me doing a lot of thinking about what I want for my sink. I've always just had one, big sink, so I'm not sure what's best. I noticed they had some accessories for stainless steel sinks at the website, too.

This was a laundry weekend. Ugh, such drudgery that we must all endure. Of course, I scared myself when I walked into the garage and saw water under the sink and all around. I've had plumbing problems before, and I just cringed thinking that I had another leak or something. I remember all too well the huge mess I had when my water heater died a couple of years ago. Fortunately, it was something stupid on my part in that I just forgot to make sure the lint trap was properly set, so that backed things up, so to speak.

Oh my! I love to look at something pretty and elegant. Recently, I watched a few episodes of Bridezillas over on the WE channel. Women go out of their minds over their weddings. We just want it to be perfect. Anyway, seeing those lovely gowns on the show had been looking around the internet and I came upon a site that has some wonderful gowns at the best bridal prices.
There are a bunch of different designers featured, and some great sales going on, including some free shipping deals. The really neat thing, though, is that when you pick a dress to look at it, just by running the mouse over the picture, you can see a closer look at that part of the dress. At the same time, the original picture stays in place, so you can see the full-length gown at the same time that you review a specific section of the gown. They have different views of each dress, too. That's awesome.
I really had a great time there, looking at dresses and dreaming that big dream. Wedding should be full of great memories and all things beautiful!
There was a time when I was a huge internet chatter. It started back in the days before the world wide web was really out there, back when we more limited access with groups like Prodigy. Chat rooms have continued to thrive over the years. The best part about chat rooms is getting the opportunity to meet others with similar interests or with some other commonality that serves to bring people together. Tonight I came upon bbw chat. It's a place that allows women to chat. They even have video chat rooms. We've come so far and the video element brings another dimension to the chat.

The advantage of using chat rooms that are focused on a similar situation is that everyone goes in with something in common. What a day! It's warming up, but we've had a breeze, so that's helped. Had a lot of shopping to do today, and that's always taxing. Y'all know how that goes. The electric company came by with their annual tree pruning notice. That's something they do every year or two to keep the lines clear. I really need a new tree in the backyard to help shade. Just gotta figure out how to get someone to care for it after it's put in. We can get free trees, which is pretty cool.
Thinking of trees reminds me of roofs. If you're in the Houston area and are in the need of roof repair or replacement, this is a good time to do it. Things are their usual, stressful selves. It's getting tougher to sit by and wait for the disability to come through. Tough decisions have to be made, and every day is stress from the time the eyes flutter open until the thoughts are tossed aside enough to go back to sleep. I know I'm not alone in this. It's a good thing I don't do the doctor bit - I'm sure my blood pressure would be through the roof. I really hope someday I can look back at this and laugh, but right now, it's just so tough.
I miss my pest control service. Bugs are congregating outside, having a field day since I put the service on hiatus. Spider webs are everywhere. At least I can't see the critters responsible; that would drive me looney.
I really miss my premier cable services. HBO, Showtime, etc. I grew up on TV, and it's been horrid downgrading. TV's my biggest source of entertainment these days, but I'm afraid my beloved Hallmark Channel is about to be let go. I've held onto it because I watch it so much, but when it comes down to it, cable is a luxury, isn't it? I think this may be the last month for it, though, unless a miracle happens. I'll be down to basic channels for the first time since cable arrived here. It's trivial to many, but for me, it's like a death because of how much I rely on TV.
I miss not being stressed every single day. Sometimes, I wonder how people without a roof over their heads can make it through to another day. I'm blessed with the roof. The problem is, I can't pay the bills and I'm not seeing a way out. The disability thing is just dragging on forever. There's no assurance it'll be approved this time, either. Without it, I'm a goner, and if it doesn't come through very fast, I'm a goner anyway. It's been two months since the appeal was entered.
How are those of you in even worst spots getting through? It boggles my mind when I think about how determined some of you are to make it through. I think I'm just not as strong as folks, like my friend Carli who battles through all kinds of things and still keeps on going somehow. I get by by doing a Scarlet O'Hara -- trying not to think about it, and yet I can't stop thinking about it. Day after day, I worry.
How nice would it be to have some peace of mind again, to go back in time to when I worked at a place where everyone hated one another but when I made an income that allowed me to be free. Those were the days. Better yet, to live childhood over when it was Mom and Dad footing the bill and I was just the spoiled brat who didn't have to worry about it. Now those were really the days.
I miss being able to spend my time walking my dogs, which I can't really do anymore anyway, and toiling over my fan fic. I feel guilty now unless I'm just glued to my computer, doing odd little jobs and trying to pay the bills. It takes so much effort for such small amounts, but it's all I've got, and I need to keep doing it. I shouldn't even be here, ranting about my woes. There are pennies to be earned, so I suppose I should get back to it.
The ranting lament is over. I promise the next post will be more positive. It's just it's all being kept inside, and I'm getting very, very scared about tomorrow.
Onward in the hopes stress stresses itself out and goes away. That would be a nice miracle.
It just dawned on me that I still haven't taken my car in for its usual check up. It's something I like to do as much as possible since I rely so much on this vehicle and need it to survive for many years to come. I was thinking about it because the weather is heating up again, as I've talked about a lot recently.
I remember last year when my auto's air conditioning went out. It was right in the middle of a scorcher of a season. I don't recall if I talked about it on the blog, but I mentioned it to friends. It was just horrible. Leaving the windows down was of no help, the hot wind just blazing by and infiltrating my car. I was sweaty by the time I got to work, and it made going anywhere a miserable experience. I kept wishing it was a fuse, but it was more involved. Thankfully, though, it wasn't too hard to fix, and then I was back in my nice, comfy, cool automobile. Boy, was that a relief!
It's so important to make sure the equipment is maintained and in good running order, especially the A/C compressor, and don't forget the coolant, either!

I found the neatest website for mommies and daddies, and for anyone involved in childcare, be it nephews and nieces, or any other connection. I'm going to start with the humor. Raising kids is a serious business, but we all have to laugh to survive. This parents site has a section called Momfinitions that had me in stitches. Boy, could I identify with some of those big time. You *have* to go by and read those.
On the serious side, there's lots of help there. I honed in on a new task they're doing about getting children to sleep through the night. It's a 30-day project that requires some commitment. I found it intriguing, and I liked their approach.
The site is called Parents Connect, and I love it. I'll be visiting it more, to learn and to laugh.

The weather is really turning into springtime, and that always brings about thoughts of things to be done. I really need to get a tree for shade, but still haven't figured out how to do that. The back of the house takes in so much sun. It's a lot better now than it used to be, with some new windows at the rear and sunscreens. The patio doors need to have something done to them, though. I can feel the heat coming through them.
I also want to get some concrete work done, if I'm able to. Of course, finding the right person to do the job can be tricky. I know I'll need to do a lot of searching to try and find the right company when the time comes.
As I was doing some preliminary searching, I ran across Phoenix Concrete which includes a nice article on how to find the right concrete contractor for the job. I really had no idea that it was being used in so many different applications. My need is much more basic, but I was very intrigued by what I saw. Here's a quick update for my fan fic readers. Holding Our Breaths is done with beta'ing. I just need to do my final read through of it. Another story is also done with beta'ing and needs me to take a final look at it. That's the good news. The bad news is that I have to focus on trying to earn money. I'm in a bad crunch right now and I have to just write reviews all day long. It takes forever to get enough to do a payout, but it's all I've got right now, and I'm a little scared about surviving the next couple of months. Still no word from the disability folks. I am sooooo stressed it's not even funny. Oh well -- onward until I can't! Hang in there -- hopefully, something good will happen soon and I can get those stories finalized and posted.

These are dangerous times we live in. All I have to do is look in the paper or read the news. In fact, a nearby town was just ranked as the fifth most dangerous and crime-ridden place in the country to live. That's not reassuring.
I'm always looking around my home and wondering what I could do to make it more secure. It's just frightening to think about all the cruelty out there that is just waiting to happen, so I really want my house to be safe. I love my front door; it's a security door that really makes me feel safe, but securing a house involves much more than that.

Okay, well, I wish I were going to Las Vegas again soon. I love Vegas. It's exciting and full of things to do. I've been there several times, and some of my best memories are of the wonderful shows I've taken in. The problem for me in the past, though, was knowing what shows were being presented and where. Most of the time, I never knew until I got there. I had to spend a lot of time talking with hotel people and reading brochures to learn what was available.
I sure wish Las Vegas Shows had been around when I was planning my past trips. You know, I love squirrels. I really do. They are cute little things. Growing up, the only places I ever saw them were at parks and in the woods. Then they migrated to the suburbs, and now they are everywhere. All I ever have to do is look out my window to see the squirrels. They are running along all sides of my fences, going in and out the trees, and taunting my dogs. Fun to watch, definitely.
However, with squirrels come a variety of problems. They've repeatedly eaten through cable and phone lines, causing a tremendous amount of damage and requiring several visits from workers in both industries. I'm not just talking about the wires high up into the air, but the ones that are right up against the house. They also jump onto our roof and run across the patio cover, occasionally keeping folks awake and bringing about damage to those areas as well. Squirrels can even get inside chimneys and crawl spaces, causing stinky problems should they pass away there. So, squirrels may be fun to watch, but they can also be frustrating and expensive.
Recently, I visited Havahart to see what solutions they have to offer. They have a variety of humane traps, electronic solutions, and squirrel repellent ideas for those of us dealing with this issue. I really love that their ideas don't involve killing because I really do love the little guys and I'm a very strong animal lover. Their entire inventory is based on their name. Look at it closely -- Havahart equals 'have a heart'. Their solutions are caring; otherwise, I wouldn't be writing about them in my blog. If you have a squirrel problem, check them out.
You know, I'm all for not panicking over the little stuff, but when the Swine Flu story first hit and then spread so fast overnight, I actually thought the U.S. should shut down the border from the U.S. to Mexico. I don't think that's over-reacting, not when you look at how massive the Swine Flu has been to Mexicans in their native country.
No one did anything, and now it's spreading even more. As I write this, a plane is being held in Maryland because a passenger is on board who may have the Swine Flu. That means that one person could have affected hundreds at the airport. If we understood this strain and what was specifically responsible for it, it might be different, but we're dealing with the unknown.
So, why are we being so cocky? Sure, no one wants panic, and right now the situation with the incidents in the U.S. has been mild, but why isn't the government doing everything they can to protect this country? Close down the border for a few days. Mexico is in a crisis. Why would we allow our own people to enter into that mess and then come back here and spread it around?
I just don't get it. Shut down the borders and stop the flights to and from Mexico. It's common sense. Until we get a handle on what the deal is, we have to protect ourselves.
While I'm whining about things I don't understand, that idiot who ordered the presidential plane flyover in New York the other day, complete with a fighter jet, should be fired. People were hurt. If it's just a photo op, why the secret? Put in the news. It's not like Obama was on the plane. I don't understand the callousness of the person who ordered the secrecy. In fact, they should be demoted -- immediately. Anyone who is that high up that they can order that kind of flight, including the classifying of it as secret, should have more common sense than what this idiot showed. I'll stop short of firing him, but he should be demoted and start taking his orders from someone with more intelligence and sensitivity.
For my fan fic folks, I have two stories completed and in beta'ing. I've also started a third story. All are season six. Now, please give these a chance. Season six stories are often ignored, but I've really Danielized them a lot and actually changed some things, so I truly hope that once published, readers will not assume and will give them a real shot. The first two stories are in beta'ing.

The mission is over and I'm into some emotional hurt/comfort at the moment for the final part of the story. I anticipate finishing it today and then putting it out to the betas. I'm not sure how long it will take for them to do their thing, but the good news is that a story is coming!
I'm also starting a wish list over on Amazon, but it's not completed and updated yet so don't go looking for it. Though I'm always in need of money just to survive, sometimes folks have asked me to tell them about something fun that I want or need since I can't really get myself anything but essentials right now, so that is what this list is for. Once it's updated, I'll let folks know here, just in case.
94 degrees! That's what it's been for the last two days here. I can't wait for the cool down. I think someone let summer out the door a bit early!
I needed a break from all the review writing, even though money continues to be a desperate situation for me. I just really needed to work on some fan fic. I pulled out the Holding Our Breaths fic. That's a season 6 story based on the Descent episode, Danielized, of course. It feels so incredibly good to be writing. It's not close to being published, and I'm afraid I have to go back to survival mode now, but I have made progress.
Speaking of my universe, just watched Celtic Women on Dancing with the Stars. Some of you may remember that Celtic Women is the group that inspired Aislinn to sing, especially Chloe. Maybe there's a ficlet in there somewhere.
Still no word on the disability. It sure takes a long time. I'm lucky to have a roof over my head. How do families survive today? I just don't know. It's time to reapply for food stamps, though. I guess that's an annual thing. I can't tell you how much I hate having to do this stuff, but here I am, with no choice and trying to hold on for survival. If not for my angels who have kept me afloat, I don't know where I'd be.

I haven't written about this before, but I just have to take a moment to remember the bright young life of Sandra Cantu. This was a local story, occurring in the nearby town of Tracy, California, but it made national news. A few weeks ago, this lovely 8-year-old who lived in a mobile home park with quite a bit of security disappeared. A massive search began with nightly candlelight prayer vigils taking place without fail. Two weeks later, the tragedy's extent became apparent when a piece of luggage was found in some water being drained. Inside was Sandra's lifeless body.
Sandra captured our hearts. She was caught on videotape leaving her home that sad day when her life ended and skipping across the street. She looked happy and was just out for a fun afternoon. We know now that probably within minutes, Sandra was dead. As we also know, the alleged murderer was a woman who also lived in the mobile home park. I don't want to dwell on the monster, but on the life that was taken from us.
I didn't know Sandra, but it's hard not to smile and laugh at that beautiful little girl who was just heading out to play. Lately, it's just bothered me more and more about how innocent children are and what evil is so often done to them. I don't understand the mentality of people who do these things. It makes no sense. Why not just walk away, rather than commit this hateful acts? In this case, it's so senseless that it boggles the mind.
Yesterday Sandra was laid to rest, and this afternoon a memorial was held for the public. Close to 3,000 people showed up, and who knows how many others, like me, tuned in to watch it live on television or on the streaming feed on the internet. That's how much little Sandra Cantu has touched Northern California -- a little girl, just an average little girl, has made such an impact that her service is on television, with state dignitaries present.
Every now and then I incorporate sad tragedies like this into my fan fic, simply because it's an outlet. We need to remember, and we need to do everything we can to stop this craziness. In reality, I know we can't, but, geez, we have to try. There are just too many Sandra Cantus who are being victimized. They don't deserve that, and we deserve a better world.
As I've maintained Orry's Orations, I've struggled with ways to make it better and to attract more visitors. Being read and seen is important. Otherwise, myself and others like me would be essentially writing to ourselves.
One of the ways that bloggers try to spread the word is with blog rolls and other similar blog-type sharing links with other bloggers, but I've just found out about a neat site that will do even more promoting our blogs, and it's free. The site is called My Blog Directory.
At My Blog Directory, you can simply add your blog to the appropriate category, or you can try to become their Blog of the Day. When you're the blog of the day, your blog appears on their home page. That's bound to bring in traffic! The blog of the day is based on unique visitors sent by the blog per day. Also, blogs are listed randomly, so each time you refresh, you see different blogs.
It sounds like a site with lots of potential, and I'm definitely going to try it out for myself.
Just about everyone who reads my blog knows I'm fighting to survive in these tough economical times. I'm having to do all kinds of creative and inventive things just to pay the bills, and yet, I consider myself lucky. I have a roof over my head and food to eat. I also have a lot of good friends, angels I call them, who have kept me from sinking into the abyss.
I find myself wondering how we're going to get out of this low place we've found ourselves in. Then I remember something I've heard my whole life -- support American made products. It's nothing against the rest of the world, but right now, America is struggling, so doesn't it make sense to support our own businesses, at least until we get back on our feet? If we don't help ourselves, we won't be able to help anyone else.
While surfing the web, I learned about a company that is extremely patriotic. The company is called American Button Machines. They do more than just wave the flag. It's an American-based business with American employees and a product that is produced only in the United States.
This company makes buttons, and boy do they have a lot of buttons available. We all love buttons! They aren't just for elections and conventions, but for all kinds of celebrations, marketing events, and even for showing your support of your favorite celebrity. I highly suspect we'll be seeing buttons of the new First Dog, Bo, very soon. If you need buttons for your business or just for a special event, you might want to check out this company's website.
American Button Machines has a great button machine blog, too, that gives tips and helps folks to make their own buttons. It sounds like a lot of a fun and a good site to check out. After all, if you feel like you need to support America, like you need to do something to help us in the long way, supporting a U.S. business like American Button Machines would be a solid way of doing so.
Here it is, halfway through April. I've been fighting computer problems with a frustrating mouse, but I just had to get online and take care of some business, and I decided to make a post while I was here.
For the first time this spring, I've had my doors open, and that's brought in some scents of the spring, and that got me thinking about perfume. Hey, it's not a stretch! I love a perfume that reminds me of good things, that is pleasing but not overpowering. I tend to love florals with a whiff of roses. Maybe that makes me traditional, which is okay, because I am. ;} I've been experimenting with a lot of perfumes over the past year, and I've discovered some lovely favorites, such as Nina from Nina Ricci. My all time favorite, though, is still Elizabeth Taylor's Passion. I've gotten more compliments over the years on that one perfume than any other. It makes me feel good and it lasts. I really adore it.
Trying new perfumes is exciting. You never know what new personal treasure you might find in yourself with a new scent that's come out, or maybe even in an old standby that you've seen but never used. I also enjoy finding out what others think about the scents of the year. I'd like to recommend a site called Talk Perfume where you can learn more about what's available these days. I consider perfumes a delightful treat. This site is a growing place that can help to educate on the current perfume market. Drop on by and see what scents you might discover.
March is ebbing and April is about to dawn. It's a trying time for me as I'm getting down to my last means in terms of survival. I'm trying not to think about it too much, but I don't know if that's smart or not. It's just scary. There's only so much I can do anymore, and asking for help is tearing at me, too. To top it off, folks have their own problems, and they've already helped me out beyond my wildest expectations. The well is about to dry up and I'm honestly not sure what will happen by month's end.
I'd rather be worrying about the judges scoring on Dancing with the Stars or dissing on the powers that be who ruined my favorite TV show, and I'm trying to do that as much as possible. At some point, though, a person has to face reality.
My entire future seems to hang on whether or not the disability will come through. The odds aren't on my side, but without it, I'm totally lost. Enough of my sad reality.
I thought Jeff Gordon might finally win a race on Sunday. He had the lead for a long time in the first third of the race, but couldn't quite pull it off. He finished fourth and actually gained some points as he continued to be the leader in points.
I'm on season five of MacGyver as I try to work my way through the DVD problems. It seems that the set was definitely put together by taking individual sets and putting them into the complete set. From what I've read, Paramount has had a ton of problems with DVDs from those thin pack cases. I wasn't that worried about the first two seasons because I have those already, and the third and fourth seasons weren't all that bad. There were just a couple of places where there problems. Season 5 seems to have some problems though. One disc that has one of my very favorite MacGyvers (The Log Jam) will barely play. I've tried rubbing alcohol and have switched over to Windex, which is helping but not enough. I want to try the toothpaste thing, but mine has whitening formula in it and everything I've read says to use a regular toothpaste. I can't afford to buy toothpaste just for my dvds so this is going to have to wait. In the meantime, I keep applying Windex, but I'm worried about overdoing it.
I'm going to stop with the daily articles and reviews; didn't really look like it was having any effect. Hump Day! Well, actually it's almost Thursday. I've spent most of the last couple of days just trying to write reviews. Sounds repetitive, but when you're out of a job, you have to do what you can to get by, and that's what I'm desperately trying to do. At least I can have MacGyver on in the background as I'm reviewing. He makes a nice backdrop.
My racing favorite, Jeff Gordon, was honored by the Boy Scouts on Tuesday night for all that he's done for the Scouts. He's raised a ton of money (over a million dollars) for them, has attended events, and the like. The Silver Buffalo is the same honor that's been given to past US presidents for their contributions, so it's quite the big deal. Way to go, Jeff!
Just saw a clip on ET with Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, and Mark Ballas. They're three of the fun ones on Dancing with the Stars. Apparently, the three have a band that performs every Tuesday evening at The Grove in Los Angeles. Julianne is quite good. I didn't know Derek sang, so that was interesting. Sounds like he plays a mean guitar, too.
For my fan-fic readers, I might have a new ficlet soon. I have an idea that I've wanted to do for a long time, just a silly little Munchkin thing from when they were babies. We'll see if I can get it together. It's a time thing right now since I'm having to do so many reviews to bring in income. The muse is still swaying back and forth with exactly how this little ficlet plays out. It involves Jack, Daniel, the babies, and, hmmm, candy.

First off, a quick thanks to Adrienne, one of my fan fic readers who caught some goofs in my story published early this morning. I've already made the corrections and updated them. I only had a couple of folks beta this story, so I really appreciate her taking the time to point out the mistakes. I love my stories to be as correct as they can. I don't know what the next story will be. My chivalry story stalled after a few paragraphs, and the muse is being silent. If anyone wants to try and spur my muse onward, please feel free to do so!

I'm still watching my set of MacGyver. I'm towards the end of season two. The problem is the blotches has continued, though it hasn't been as bad on subsequent DVDs as it was in the season one set. They're there, but not causing as much havoc. Had a couple of disks with no problems and a couple with just one or two shows affected. I haven't tried the toothpaste bit yet, but I plan to. I've sort of decided to watch the entire set first and then see what I can do.

It's Friday, and I'm still here, kickin'! I survived my root canal, obviously. It's probably the smoothest root canal I've ever had, and I"m hoping it stays that way. I'm feeling okay at the moment, and I want that to continue. I have a great dentist. It's so nice to be reminded that there are caring people in this world. This guy skipped his lunch hour to make sure I was taken care of before my insurance ran out today. That's pretty cool.
I'm still stunned at the death of Natasha Richardson. It sure does impress upon folks the importance of wearing helmets on the slopes, even when just learning, like she was. It also points out how any fall should be looked at. I'm sure there are going to be many painful days of second guessing going on from the people around her on that fateful day. What if they had insisted Natasha be checked out? No one can say for sure what might have been, but it's a horrible thing to have to live with. There's no guilt to be assigned here, and from all the reports about this kind of injury since the accident, maybe some good can come from this.
The lessons to be learned here are simple. Wear a helmet and if you fall, get checked out. Natasha had that lucid period doctors talk about and after that, it was too late. Hopefully, someone will learn from that and not lose their life.
I'm very excited! When I got home from the dentist on Thursday, I had an email from Helium. One of my articles on NASCAR won a contest. That's some desperately needed cash, so I was and am thrilled. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to surf over to my articles.
For my fan fic folks, I'll try to get the next story published this weekend, Monday at the latest. I do hope everyone enjoyed the story published late Wednesday night. It was just a short ficlet. This next one is a bit longer, and it's a beyond the series fic that has a potential new revelation for some of the brood. It could be interesting for the future. Then again, maybe it's nothing at all! Only the muse knows for sure.
I do have two longer stories that are in process. I actually was in the middle of incorporating the Ori story into the universe. However, it's a major undertaking because I'm writing the real story, not what we saw in canon. :} Also, the entire two years is being condensed into less than two months, so it's a fast paced series of events that have our heroes in crisis. I was about halfway through it when my disability claim was denied and I went into a panicked downward spiral. I am still having to focus on trying to earn money, somehow, in order to pay the bills. Right now I'm okay through March, but at mid-April, I'll have big, big, big problems. Until things settle, which hopefully will mean having my disability appeal approved (I hope and pray), I just don't have the time to work on any lengthy story. I hate that because I need my universe, but it's just how it is. The stress is tremendous.
Anywho, the other story is also beyond the series. Alex gets to work more magic in it, something required after a lot of toe-bumping in the middle of the night. It'll make sense when you read it. Of course, I have to finish writing it first. One of these days, and hopefully, that will be sooner rather than later.

It's a NASCAR weekend. The racers are in Bristol. I sure hope my favorite, Jeff Gordon, has a good race. He didn't qualify as great as I was hoping he'd do, but qualifying isn't nearly as important as taking that checkered flag. Go Jeffy go!
Has anyone had this problem with the complete MacGyver DVD set that I'm about to explain. A very nice person gifted me with this collection recently. The problem is that she's had it about a year and purchased it from a seller off of eBay so I can't do anything simple like return it. This set was new, though, and still had the cellophane on it. Many of the disks have these white blotches on them. The make the dvd pause. Sometimes it stops and goes back to the first scene; sometimes it stops and skips forward to the next segment; sometimes it pauses, freezes, then goes forward, or pauses, jumps forward a tad, or goes in slow motion until it resumes normally.
I've never seen anything like this before. Has anyone else with the MacGyver set had this problem, or does anyone else know what this problem is, period? I'm looking for suggestions on how to fix it and make the affected shows more watchable.

First of all, I was so saddened to hear that Natasha Richardson died today. What a tremendous shock. I enjoyed her work so much, and both she and her husband, Liam Neeson, worked with my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze. It's just shocking the way their day must have started, so calm and innocent, to have ended up so tragically. I don't even know what to say. It's just so very sad.
My dentist called today. He really wants me to have that root canal, so even though he's stacked up with appointments, he's going to squeeze me in tomorrow (Thursday). He's really a nice guy, and he knows my insurance runs out on Friday and I'm just extremely hesitant to go to anyone new at this point. So, think positively for me that it goes well. I've had smooth root canals and tortuous ones. I'd like this one to be smooth.

I read today that the AIG CEO is asking some of the executives to return "some" of their bonuses. That whole thing just irks me big time. We bail them out and they give each other bonuses? I really don't care about the legalities angle. Had we not saved their butts, they'd have squat because they wouldn't even exist. Where's the justice for all of us here?
American Idol had a bit of a shocker with Alexis Grace being voted off. She just didn't sing up to her potential, and that was the real problem. I loved Carrie Underwood's appearance and that she continues to acknowledge the place that Idol had in her career.
This was on The View this morning, and it's definitely a much better and more reliable report on Patrick Swayze than anything you'll find in a nasty tabloid rag.
Just read about Natasha Richardson's skiing accident. I'm stunned. My prayers go out to her family. I've always liked Natasha. I first noticed her in Parent Trap, in which I thought she was absolutely charming, and then in Waking Up in Reno, in which she co-starred with Patrick Swayze. She played a disheartened ex-southern belle in that one, and was wonderful. I just had to post about it here. I sure hope it's not as grim as the reports sound. Read about it here.
I watched Dancing with the Stars tonight. The stars are dropping like flies on that show. They really don't have a stellar cast this season anyway, so it's a little dull. I do like Shawn Johnson. She's just 17, but she has a shot at winning. She's got competition, though, so it won't be an easy battle for any of them.

It's Monday, and that's mean the dentist has come and gone. On the good news front, the gunk from the right side of my mouth has all healed just fine. On the bad news, he thinks there is another problem on the other side. He wanted to do a root canal, but he's just jammed with appointments, and there's no room. My insurance runs out on Friday, and honestly, I don't want another dentist. I'm just so private and finicky with anything medical, including the dentist. I trust this guy. I'm probably an idiot, but I'm just gonna wait it out and pray for the best. I don't wanna go to someone new right now. It's too hard to get around, and I'm so sensitive to pain. Stress -- it's stressful just thinking about it.
Had a surprise in the mail -- a coupon for a free jar of Skippy Peanut Butter. I must have registered at their website or something. It was just a nice letter, assuring me (and I assume a bunch of others) that they aren't involved in the recall mess with peanut butter. I'm sure they've had a drop in sales.
For the fan fic group, found out yesterday that one of my stories was nominated this year for the annual fan fic words. That's always a cool honor, to know someone likes a fic enough to nominate it, so thank you, whoever you are.
I'm still aiming for Wednesday to publish one of the stories. Not sure as yet which one it will be, though.

Just a few more minutes left in this Sunday day. I started my day by writing a few more reviews, which was enough to get another pay out over at Review Stream. For my fan fic folks, I'm going to try and get one of the stories published in the next couple of days. I've been hoping to get a few more people to beta, but haven't had any luck. It must be a busy time of year for some of them. My betas spoil me; I really believe in what they do, but I think I need to go back to just publishing the best I can make it and just let it go at that. I'm not a perfectionist; like I said, just spoiled by what a good alpha beta can do to a story, even a ficlet.

Calm day in the news around here. The most exciting thing has been Celebrity Apprentice, and frankly, that wasn't exciting. Why Dennis Rodman is even on this show, I'll never know.
The Amazing Race was entertaining to a point. I do like Luke and his mom. I don't know that I'm rooting for anyone at this point, but I 'hope' for them. Mel and his dad are fun, too. I did like Victor and his sister, but they played a little dirty today, and I like to root for the good guys.

Not a lot going on today. I've been sorting through magazines and going through papers, getting rid of a lot of stuff that is just taking up space. However, I've had fun while I've been doing it. A very nice person just gifted me with copies of the Legend TV series with Richard Dean Anderson, so I've had gorgeous RDA during the afternoon to help me with my projects.
Friends and I have also been debating the big scene at the end of the Burn Notice finale when Victor (Michael Shanks) was killed. Who pulled the trigger -- Michael or Victor? It's a huge debate, and there's evidence on both sides.

Well, I had stopped watching Ghost Whisperer many episodes back. I was livid when they killed off Jim and had his soul do the 'Heaven Can Wait' thing and leap into another body. David Conrad, who plays Jim, did an interview this week and talked about how pivotal tonight's show would be. There was so much talk about fans not being disappointed that I decided to take my own leap of faith and watch.
Bravo! My leap of faith was rewarded with a much more satisfying end than that which came to Warren Beatty in HCW. I'm happy with it. In fact, I shall return to the Ghost Whisperer fold, as long as they don't botch it up in forthcoming episodes.
Finally, a happy ending, although there are about a thousand questions that still need to be answered!
And now it's back to watching Celtic Woman. They are magical to listen to.
It's really hard sometimes to keep a blog going when life looks gloomy. That's been my experience, anyway. As I continue to struggle to get by, it's get tougher to write about silly little things, even if they make me smile. Still, I think it's important to try. As I continue to try and figure out how to survive, now as a displaced, laid off worker, it's more important to try and keep a healthy mental attitude. As such, I'm going to try a bit of a new approach here. Maybe just share one tidbit I've learned or read about, or something that's made me laugh. Maybe then I can post more frequently and give this blog some meaning. I'm also going to highlight some of the things I do that bring in money for me in which you can help, just for surfing or voting, or whatever.
My beautiful dogs are doing great. They continue to make me smile just by being themselves and playing. They are joy, pure joy. I totally believe in the love and power of pets. They are amazing.

I must admit that I was thrilled to see that California is going after Howard K. Smith and the doctor who gave Anna Nicole Smith all those pills. I don't see how he can say he loved her when he abetted her by giving drug after drug after drug to her. It'll probably plea out or something, but Smith and the doctor deserve to be held accountable for their part in keeping Anna Nicole drugged to the core.
I was reading an article over at Helium about chivalry. It was a debate on whether or not it was dead. That got me thinking about a possible story for my fan fic universe. I'm thinking of doing something with Aislinn and Jenny, and some of the boys on the block. Aislinn is a boy magnet, and Jenny doesn't really care. It might make for interesting contrast, if I can do it right. Is chivalry really dead? Maybe the girls and boys of the neighborhood will answer that question for us.
Fan fic wise, I do have two stories that are about to be published. One is beyond the series and one is from season two. The latter is just a short ficlet that takes place the day after the One False Step episode, but it popped into my head the other night, so I wrote it. The first one is a short story about a couple of the brood who have an unexpected adventure. I'm wondering if my beyond the series stories focus too much on the brood and not enough on Jack and Daniel. Shrug -- don't know, but sometimes it feels that way, but I do love those kiddies.
A final note. The tabloid trash is just that -- trash. Please do not patronize junk like the National Enquirer, publications that thrive on the bad times of others. Their latest attack on Patrick Swayze is just shameful. It's full of lies and untruths. Patrick is fighting and doing just fine, all things considered. He told People Magazine that he even has a new dog, another Rhodesian Ridgeback. People's time, energy, and money would be much better spent sending up prayers for Patrick and donating the money they'd spend on the trash to StandUP2Cancer or some other reputable organization.

This interview will be heart-wrenching. I expect a ton of tears and a lot of Kleenex to be used up. From all indications, he's telling the truth, from the gut. We've already learned from the snippets that Patrick is actually dealing with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, meaning it spread to his liver.
The hour on TV tonight was be difficult. Patrick and Lisa are much-loved. They have a nation of two together that is so amazing. It breaks my heart to think that the time is most likely going to come when, mortally, they won't be together on this Earth.
Patrick continues to have my prayers, as does Lisa. He's beating the odds every day that he gets up and takes a breath. He can beat more odds. He has the strength and the will to do it. I'm realistic, but that does not diminish my hopes that in two years, we'll be talking about many more odds that he's beaten, and in 5 years, even more.
He's a wonderful man, and Lisa is a terrific lady. It hurts to know that one day, Patrick might not be here, but I suggest we live in today, that we cherish the man many of us have meant and care about, as a man, not just as an actor, and that we continue to send up those prayers and good vibes, that we continue to visualize Patrick, healthy and strong, riding his horses and playing with his dogs, and that we just continue to share his passion and hope.
That's what I'm going to try and do.
Patrick's new show, "The Beast", airs on A&E beginning January 15. Previews and trailers are available 'on demand' for those with Comcast service. A&E also has a terrific website for the series, complete with wallpapers, a community board, photo albums, and so much more. They are heavily promoting the series and looking forward to a second season of the new drama.

I watched Patrick Swayze's "Christmas in Wonderland" over the weekend. He was fabulous, as always. There was a commercial shown towards the end advertising his interview with Barbara Walters in January. It's going to be awesome!
I also saw Michael Shank's "Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon". He was great; it was a very different character, even though he was playing yet another archaeologist.
Times are super tough financially. I'm still having some success over at GPTCashcow.com and continue to recommend it as a way to bring in extra cash. The admin has done daily contests all through the month of December, and I've managed to win two of them. I'm doing a lot of reviews still at Review Stream, and I've done more articles over at Helium. Every penny helps in this day and age.
May your Christmas be all you wish it to be, and here's hoping 2009 is worlds better than 2008!

I've written a ton of new reviews over at Review Stream and have included the links for you on the right hand side of this blog, under the big yellow smiley face. I'm doing a lot of Adam-12 reviews right now because I managed to get the DVDs for the first two seasons so am watching the shows anyway.
Also, on the reviews, if you ask a question or comment on the review, that gives me a chance to respond to it, and every time I do so, that ups the number of votes. So, please, ask questions on the reviews or make a comment that would require me to respond. That's another easy way of helping me out.
I'm in a financial crisis so am asking everyone who can to please, please, please vote for these reviews. I know it takes a little time, but I don't get to reap the rewards of the votes until there is '50' of them (vote payments are done in groups of 50). There are a few, like Bayer Aspirin, Michael Shanks, and some others that are getting close. If you want, start with the oldest reviews (Wendy's was the first), and work your way up to the present. Some of the older ones are the closest.
